Most broccoli varieties are sensitive to weather conditions. Bay Meadows, however, is a little more adaptable, and definitely your best bet if your heart is set on fresh summer broccoli! This plant will give you a beautifully domed, 6-7 inch head with fine beads in a lovely blue/green colour.

This oriental variety is great for broccoli lovers, as it is ready to harvest much earlier than most, thanks to its shorter stalks and high tolerance to frost. Chief Hybrid broccoli is a beautiful blue/green colour with small to medium head size.

This variety of cauliflower is a great, season-long option. This hardy plant is adaptable to many growing regions and produces large heads, 2-3lbs, that are dense, uniform, and almost pure snow white.

Veronica Romanesco Hybrid
Although technically a variety of cauliflower, Romanesco is very much a mix between cauliflower and broccoli. It has a lovely nutty flavor, and a lime green colour. This veggie is lovely to look at while it’s growing in the garden, as its pointy, geometrical florets are a perfect representation of the Fibonacci sequence (for all of you math-types). This Italian hybrid is a great fall crop, as it does fine during the first frosts of the season.
